Stephen Waiswa


Stephen joins the banking Industry from the Telecom world where he commands a six years’ experience in Mobile Financial services.

Stephen worked as Airtel Money Director at Airtel Rwanda. With his profound leadership and subject matter expertise, he was tasked to deliver competitive dynamics and market insights to support the go-to-market strategy of Airtel Money. While in Rwanda, he led a team that successfully built a strong formidable Agent Network across the country, spear headed the Interoperability Project among MNO’s in Rwanda plus lead to the design and development of a hybrid Micro saving and Credit services.
Additionally, Waiswa was accountable for assessing the competitive landscape and developing Airtel Money positioning and differentiation in product innovation, regional market performance and analysis.

Before Joining Rwanda, Stephen was among the personalities that revamped Airtel Money Business in Uganda. His hands-on experience and know how in the field of Product Development, Corporate Business positioning thus Mobile Money value-added services helped Airtel Uganda position themselves as number one innovative MFS service over time. His efforts helped create different legs of usage for the Airtel money.

Stephen is a subject matter expert in Mobile Financial Services in the telecommunication landscape and is a digital leader, strategist, Mobile-Commerce consultant and expert specializing in: Mobile Money, Mobile Banking, Micro Insurance, Micro saving, M-Women, Micro Savings, Loans and other Mobile Financial services, thus always strives to lead the organization towards achieving its strategic objectives.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science from Makerere University in Uganda and currently pursuing an MBA with Oklahoma Christian University.
